Putting our money where our heart is.

The biggest risk of all is not taking one.

―Mellody Hobson

Blue Sky Social Justice Fund uses its capital to tackle pressing problems facing our world and its most disadvantaged people through impact investing. Our approach is rooted in two beliefs. First, our investment strategies should be aligned with our social justice mission and not undermine it. Second, while philanthropic support can be transformative, debt and equity investment funding can often facilitate impact at greater scale.

We go beyond applying an ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) lens to all our investments, and make direct, high-impact debt and equity investments, both in the United States and internationally, in climate-change solutions, energy and water access, affordable housing, sustainable agriculture/agroforestry, and more. We often target our international impact investments to markets and communities that are particularly under-resourced—Haiti, Central America, the Amazon Basin, Africa, and Southeast Asia—with an additional focus on livelihoods and supporting local, Indigenous, and people of color entrepreneurs.

Some investments seek market-rate returns, while others are made on a concessionary basis acknowledging that deep impact and high returns are not always compatible. Sometimes investments are made alongside charitable grants. Whenever possible, Blue Sky Social Justice Fund seeks to be catalytic with its impact investing.
